11 Exciting Activities Taking Place in Edson this October

I think you autumn know that October has arrived!


Not only does the month bring a plethora of spooky events to Edson in preparation for Halloween, but there are also a great number of activities that will leave you laughing in your seats, learning about local history, enjoying live music and much more!


Let the gourd times roll this October with this list of 11 exciting activities and events taking place in Edson!


1. Ladies Night Out at the Museum

Ladies! Join the Town of Edson and the Galloway Station Museum for a special Ladies Night Out to learn about the spectacular wild women of West Yellowhead’s past! Learn about the struggles and utter determination of the area’s women as they battle sexism, unknown lands, untimely deaths and much more in this special 18+ event. There will be also be free refreshments and a cash bar to further enhance this history lesson.

2. Comedy Night at the Fresh Vine

Get ready for a night of laughter and good times at the Fresh Vine’s Comedy Night on October 12! With host Simon Glassman’s absurd observations and funny storytelling mixed with Just for Laughs comedian Chris Gordon’s hilarious approach to comedy and audience interaction, this event is sure to have you laughing out of your seats!

3. An Evening with the Legends

Spend an evening with classic country and rock and roll legends like Elvis Presley, Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison and many more at this special full-costume comedy tribute at the Edson Legion!


Over the past 35 years, recording artist Robert Larrabee has received standing ovations from all over the world for his one-man, Vegas-style tribute show.


Join Larrabee and his alter egos for a night out full of fun, laughter, music and celebration of some of the world’s most accomplished classic country and rock and roll musicians.

October 14 | 7 pm

 

4. Turkey Trot

Gather your flock and strut your way through the Town of Edson’s turkey trot for the chance to win one of three prize packs that anyone would be thankful for!


This 5 km run/bike/walk follows a turkey-shaped route through town and can be completed anytime between October 7 and 15.


Snap a photo with Butterball the Turkey along your way and share it on social media to be entered into the prize draw.

5. October 20 PD Day

Students ages 6 and up are invited to join the Galloway Station Museum, Town of Edson, Elevation Studio and Edson Dance Academy for another fun and exciting PD Day! This month, students will be able to participate in a variety of exciting activities, including aerial arts, crafts and an optional graveyard tour!

6. Grave Memories Cemetery Tour

Cemeteries are so much more than burial grounds!


Join the Galloway Station Museum and Christopher White for a historical guided walking tour of the Glenwood Cemetery and Old Edson Cemetery (aka the ‘Baby Graves’). Learn about the stories behind the headstones and the people, personalities and events that shaped our region.


Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased here. This event is recommended for ages 14+.

7. Halloween Dances

Dress in your best costume and strut your stuff at an upcoming Halloween dance this October!


On October 21, the Edson Dance Enthusiasts (EDE) will be hosting a West Coast Swing Halloween Dance Party at the Galloway Station Museum, complete with games, a costume contest, cash bar and more. Please note that this event is by invitation only – contact your local EDE member to obtain your invitation.


Families are invited out to the Pine Grove Hall on October 28 for the Family Halloween Howler, which will feature games, supper, prizes, a dance and much more.

8. Jack-O-Lantern Junction

Bring the family to visit Jack-O-Lantern Junction at Kinsmen Park this Halloween!


This free outdoor pumpkin exhibit will feature pumpkins carved by Edson’s own residents. Sip on some hot chocolate and chow down on some popcorn while you wander through the exhibit, and be sure to vote for your favourite pumpkins! There will be prizes for the best overall pumpkin in four categories: 9 and under, 10-17, adult and senior.


Want to get in on the pumpkin carving contest? Carve your own pumpkin work of art and drop it off at Kinsmen Park between 3 and 5 pm on October 29.

9. EARS' Haunted Forest

Edson Animal Rescue Society’s (EARS) annual Haunted Forest Fundraiser is back for three nights of scares and ghoulish fun!


Take a stroll through Edson’s most haunted forest where creepy crawlies and other monstrosities dwell. Enjoy browsing the spooky décor and be sure to keep your eyes peeled because you never know what lurks in the dark!


If you’re brave enough, stick around for ghoulish games, an outdoor movie, campfire, popcorn, bake sale and many more surprises!


For those with little ones or those who don’t enjoy live scares, Scaredy Cat hour takes place from 6-7 pm on October 27th and 28th. October 26th is Little Goblin Glow in the Dark Night with no active scares all night long – perfect for a trip with your little ones. Purchases a glow sick and experience the spooky sights without any of the jump scares.


For the chance to win a free event pass and some extra goodies, participate in EARS’ coloring contest! More details can be found here.


This event is by donation (minimum $2), with all funds going towards EARS’ operations for rescuing and rehoming animal in the Edson/Jasper/Hinton/Whitecourt area.

 

October 26-28 | 6 pm to 9 pm

 

10. HalloWillmore

Join the Edson Rotary Club at Willmore Park for an afternoon of Halloween fun! Trick or treat through the campsites, cozy up around the campfire, cook up some hotdogs and enjoy spending time with your family at this free community event!

 

October 29 | 12 pm - 4 pm

 

11. Trick or Treat at the Leisure Centre

Youth ages 11-17 are invited out to the Edson Leisure Centre to enjoy an afternoon full of treats, Jack-O-lantern carving, Halloween activities and a trip out to EARS’ Haunted Forest Fundraiser for some ghoulish tricks!

*** UPCOMING EVENT: Prohibition Night

Get your flapper dresses now because Prohibition Night is coming up fast!


On November 4, join the Galloway Station Museum to celebrate the END of Prohibition in Edson! Complete with live music by the Misery Mountain Boys, 'gambling', hors d'oeuvres, dancing, drinks of the era and much more, it is sure to be the 'bee's knees'!


Come dressed up in your best 1920's-era clothing for the chance to win a prize.
