5. Wildwood Bronc Bustin' & Ranch Rodeo

Gear up for an exhilarating rodeo experience at the Wildwood Rodeo Grounds, where the 19th annual Wildwood Bronc Bustin' rodeo is set to unfold on June 15th.


Before the event kicks off in at 7 pm, the WBB committee will treat attendees to a thrilling Ranch Rodeo right at the grounds. Here, classic ranch activities such as trailer loading, hangman, and ranch bronc riding will showcase western Canadian culture. Additionally, youth will have the opportunity to participate in events like "Get Kraken" and "Fix the Fence". To top it all off, the crowd will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the most exhilarating ride of the night, crowning the best wild ride champion!


Since 2004, Wildwood Bronc Bustin’ has led the way as the first solo saddle bronc event approved by the CPRA (Canadian Professional Rodeo Association), with winnings crucial to the Canadian standings. The recognition grew in 2016 with PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) backing, boosting the competition by including winnings in the worldwide standings.


Featuring a stellar roster of seasoned riders vying for Canadian and World titles, as well as a talented group of up-and-coming Novice Pro riders ready to make their mark in Pro Saddle Bronc, Wildwood Bronc Bustin’ 2024 guarantees to deliver an electrifying spectacle you won't want to miss!


This year, the Calgary Stampede is back as the Stock Contractor, with a remarkable $25,000 purse up for grabs. Thirty elite Saddle Bronc Riders will vie for victory, tackling 30 of Calgary Stampede's top horses in the opening round. The top eight contenders will advance to the final round, where they'll take on the sport's finest broncs.


The event isn't just about the exhilarating rides; it's a celebration of cowboy culture, featuring attractions like the lively Calcutta auction and a spirited post-ride dance with live music by Wildrose Roulette and Dusty Golden.

This exciting event highlights Edson's picturesque trail system and offers something for everyone, from a Kids Fun Run (1km) to 3km, 5km, and 10km walk/run options.


The Kids Fun Run is all about fun, with a registration fee of $20 that includes a pancake breakfast, kids fun zone, swag bag, warm-up with Eddie, and a finisher medal. Parents can join their children for free, and strollers are welcome in the Kids Fun Run and the 3km race.


All proceeds raised will be put toward upgrading Edson's park and trail system.

12. Shandy's Dream for a Cure

This month, join Barbie Brown and Rob Reichenbacher for Shandy’s Dream for a Cure Fundraiser to raise funds for pediatric cancer research.


In 2015, Barbie and Rob faced the unimaginable loss of their 11-year-old daughter, Shandy, to a brain tumor. To honor Shandy's dream of finding a cure for brain cancer, they founded Shandy’s Dream for a Cure, dedicated to raising vital funds for pediatric brain tumor research. Over the past eight years, the community of Edson has come together every June to support Barbie and Rob in remembering Shandy and continuing her legacy. Through their unwavering passion and the community's generosity, they have raised over $120,000 for pediatric cancer research.


This heartwarming day of remembrance and hope will be taking place on June 22 at RCMP Centennial Park and will feature a BBQ fundraiser, memorial walk, and butterfly release, with all proceeds supporting the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada in their mission to advance brain tumor research.


Let’s unite to ensure Shandy's fight continues and her dream for a cure lives on. If you can't attend in person, online donations can also be made here.

Laura, a visionary Canadian wire artist hailing from Edmonton, intricately hand-twists chicken wire into stunning sculptures. Her remarkable pieces have graced the public art collections of neighboring communities like Spruce Grove and Whitecourt, and she's even left her mark at the University of Alberta Botanical Gardens with six sculptures in their private collection.


In addition, Louis brings his own artistic flair to the exhibit as a gifted Canadian landscape photographer. His breathtaking photographs beautifully complement Laura's unique sculptures, adding depth and resonance to the experience.


Explore this remarkable exhibit, open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm, until June 25.
