Get out your calendars, because September is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month in Edson and area! With Alberta Culture Days on the horizon, there are lots of ways to celebrate and get involved in the local arts community, but there are also tons of great events to help you stay fit, get you and your family out and about, and even ways to give back to the community. Don’t miss out on these 15 events coming up in Edson and area this September that will keep you busy all month long!
1. Community Threads Exhibit & Workshop
Kick off Alberta Culture Days on September 3 with a free drop-in reception for the Red Brick Arts Centre's latest exhibit, ‘Community Threads’, curated by local artist Lara Felsing.
Stick around for a tote making workshop with Isabel Dong, with sessions available at 6 pm and 7:30 pm. Spots are limited to six participants per session, so be sure to register in advance to secure your spot! Register by calling 780-725-0582 ext. 300. Open to ages 16 and up.
Missed the reception? No problem! The exhibit will be on display until September 25 and can be visited during the Red Brick’s regular hours from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm.

2. End of Summer BBQ
Celebrate the end of summer and welcome in the new season with a free and delicious community BBQ provided by the Edson Mennonite Church on September 6. Enjoy fun games, a bouncy castle and more!

3. Fort Edmonton Park Seniors' Trip
Seniors - ever wanted to visit the iconic Fort Edmonton Park but have no means to get there? Then you're in luck, because the Town of Edson is offering a Seniors' Trip to Fort Edmonton Park on September 6!
A chartered bus will take you the park, where you'll enjoy five hours of uninterrupted time to explore and experience everything it has to offer. Afterward, you'll head to the Cheesecake Café in Spruce Grove for a delicious dinner before returning home.
Make sure to bring extra money for meals and shopping at the park. Please note that exploring the park involves a significant amount of walking, so visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly and wear comfortable footwear.

4. Edson Road Hockey Rumble
Grab your hockey sticks and get ready for the ultimate youth street hockey tournament at the 10th annual Road Hockey Rumble on September 6!

5. Survivors' Flag Raising Ceremony
Join the Edson Friendship Centre and the Town of Edson to come together in solidarity to recognize and honour the resilience of residential school survivors at the upcoming Survivors' Flag Raising Ceremony on September 9.
This ceremony is a powerful opportunity to reflect on the past and support our community's healing journey.
Wear your orange to show your support and stand with the Friendship Centre as they raise the flag, symbolizing hope and unity. Everyone is welcome to participate in this meaningful event.

6. Edson Art & Soul Festival
Edson’s Art and Soul Festival will be taking over Main Street on September 12 to celebrate Edson’s talented arts community—and you’re invited!
From 4-10:30 pm, head down to 50th Street to enjoy a free pulled pork on a bun, live music by local musicians, art demos, a DIY air dry clay craft, shopping and much more! Take a stroll through Edson’s beautiful mural walk and view a variety of art displayed in the windows of local businesses.
There’s plenty to keep the little ones busy too! Burn off their energy on the bouncy castles, get them a twisted balloon or simply let them enjoy the wandering performers.
And that’s not all! Put on your dancing shoes and join local musician Tyler Babiuk for a fun street dance at 7:30 pm.
Need a ride? Edson FCSS will be sponsoring a free shuttle service, with pick-up from Parkland Lodge at 4:30 pm.

7. Edson Business Booster & Fundraiser
Win prizes, shop local, and raise money for charity at the upcoming Edson Business Booster and Fundraiser on September 13.
Head down to the Best Western High Road Inn to shop from 20 different local vendors and discover some new businesses you may not have heard of before, from established brick and mortar stores to small, home-run businesses.
Bring the kids for an afternoon of fun, with bouncy castles, balloon twisting, face painting, and more to keep them busy. And who knows, you may just bring home a new furry friend as EARS (Edson Animal Rescue Society) will be in attendance with some lovely animals to adopt.

8. Edson Ranch Rodeo
Celebrate Alberta’s wild west roots at the Edson Ranch Rodeo on September 13-14, a full weekend of rodeo fun for the whole family!
Saturday will feature the classic ranch rodeo, with exhilarating competitions like team doctoring, ranch broncs, trailer loading, wild cow milking, and a tire drag relay race. Stick around for the youth rancher segment, where children 13 years and younger will take on goat doctoring, fix the fence, and cows got out. The weekend will also feature instant rancher for ages 12 and under on both days.
On Saturday evening, enjoy a delicious dinner for only $25 a plate, followed by a lively dance at 8 pm.
Sunday’s activities kick off with the no rope ranch rodeo, with events like the cattle drive obstacle, mail express, team sorting, hangman jailbreak, cow riding, and ladies and men ranch broncs taking center stage.
Gate fee is by donation, with 50% of the proceeds going to the Edson Food Bank and the Edson Run of Hope.

9. Terry Fox Run

Join over 600 communities across Canada in the fight against cancer by participating in the 45th annual Terry Fox Run on September 14.
Starting at the Edson & District Leisure Centre, this 5km run can be walked, run, rollerbladed, or biked to help raise funds for cancer research.
Registration begins at 12:30 pm, with the run scheduled to kick off at 1 pm.

10. The Boob Tour: A Wild Comedy Night
Get ready for a night of laughter at the Boob Tour: A Wild Comedy Tour coming up on September 18 at the Edson Legion. This stand-up comedy event, dedicated to supporting the local fight against cancer, combines humor and heart to prove that laughter really is the best medicine. Tickets are $40 each and can be purchased at Fineline Stationery. All proceeds raised from this event will support Edson’s annual Run of Hope for Cancer, which will be celebrating its 25th year this October.

11. Movie in the Park
Join the West Yellowhead Pregnancy Care Centre on September 19 for a cozy evening under the stars as you watch the beloved animated classic film, 'The Iron Giant'.
Grab your blankets, lawn chairs, and friends or family to enjoy this free evening of outdoor movie watching. With hot dogs, popcorn and drinks available for purchase, it's the perfect way to recreate the magic of movie night outdoors.
Donations will also be accepted, which will help support future community events.

12. Shandy's Dream for a Cure Bottle Drive
Contribute to the fight against brain cancer by attending the annual Shandy’s Dream for a Cure Bottle Drive on September 20.
Bring down your bags of bottles that are taking up space in your garage and donate them to this great fundraiser, created in memory of Shandy Reichenbacher, who passed away from a brain tumour at the age of 11. All proceeds raised will go to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada for brain tumour research.

13. Edmonton Schoolboys Alumni Band concert
The Edmonton Schoolboys Alumni Band is back for another great evening of live, full-band music at the Edson Royal Canadian Legion on September 25!
This vibrant band of seasoned musicians are alumni of numerous Edmonton bands, dating all the way back to 1913!
The concert is free to attend, with no tickets required.

15. Dodge Bull
Experience an exhilarating two-day event featuring action-packed rodeo entertainment and live music at Element Zone 13’s annual Dodge Bull event on September 26-27!
Enjoy the thrill of ranch broncs, freestyle bullfights, bull poker, ladies cow riding, and the daring Ring of Fear throughout the weekend. Savor delicious offerings from on-site food trucks and relax at the beer gardens.
On Saturday night, don't miss the chance to see the dynamic Alberta rock/country artist Cole Malone perform live.
Advance tickets are offered at a discount and will be available for purchase until September 12 at the Edson Boot Shop. Otherwise, tickets can be purchased at the gate for various prices.
